About
Jenny Jisun Kim is an artist and translator based in New Jersey, working between Seoul and New York. Her work begins with language, not as subject matter, but as structure, gesture, and a way into thinking about meaning. As an immigrant translating between Korean and English, she regularly encounters moments when words and ideas don't fully carry across. These gaps make her acutely aware of the politics embedded in language and how histories of colonization and migration shape which languages are privileged, which are marginalized, and what gets to count as translatable. Her studio practice grows directly from this engagement with translation, approaching abstraction as a form of translational thinking and using painted marks, fragments of text, and layered materials to explore how meaning stays unstable and unresolved. She is not seeking clarity or fixed interpretation; her work embraces opacity and ambiguity, holding text and image in a zone of potential.
